Christ on the Cross is Eden. The Cross expresses a New Eden, where Christ has replaced the flaming sword and welcomes us all in.
Eden was on a mountain, where four rivers found its source and watered the whole Earth.
Similarly, the Cross is on a mountain next to Jerusalem. In Jewish folklore, Eden was at the site of Jerusalem. So Christ dies on the Holy Mountain of God, at the site of Eden.
Just as the rivers flow from Eden to the four corners of the Earth, so does Christ’s blood flow into every part of this World.
The down-beam of the Cross is the Tree of Life. As Christ dies on the Cross, he hangs like a fruit. All who consume this fruit, shall not die but have eternal life.
John 6 v 54
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life
The cross-beam is from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. And so Jesus is tempted by the unrepentant thief:
Luke 23 v 39
One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
But He chooses to accept what God had asked Him to do. This is what caused the Curse; Adam imposing his own will rather than submitting to God’s. Christ breaks the Curse by choosing God’s way.
The Crown of Thorns is the symbol of the Curse. Whereas the thorns were found outside the Garden of Eden, here Christ is crowned with them.
Eden now contains the cursing thorns. They are held with Christ, at His head. If we are part of the Body of Christ, He frees us from the Curse.
In His death, we find life. In His death, we gain freedom. In His death, joy abounds.
