Lot and His Daughters: Part 2 Parting of the Ways
A famine came upon the land of Canaan, so Abram travelled to Egypt with his family and Lot.
When the famine passed, they moved to Southern Canaan. However, as their herds grew, the land couldn’t support both Abram and Lot’s animals. Quarrelling then arose between their herdsmen.
Abram suggested they separate. And offered to Lot whether he wanted to stay in the hills or leave to the Plain of Jordan. Wherever Lot decided, Abram would choose the opposite.
Lot chose the Plain of Jordan and headed East.
Geography of the Plain of Jordan
The plain consists of the River Jordan flowing down into the Dead Sea. There were five cities of the Plain at the time: Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zoboiim and Zoar (or Bella).
This area is the lowest point on Earth (400 m/1,400 ft below sea level). In the Dead Sea nothing lives and salt is in abundance.
