Sodom was a city in the area of the Plain. There has been many attempts to uncovering its archaeological remains. But so far, this has been unsuccessful.
There was a promising site at Tall El-Hammam, on the North-East side of the Dead Sea, though this has now been disputed.
One of the traditional sites is on the opposite side of the Dead Sea, at Mount Sodom. I prefer this site, as it was near where the four kings attacked Sodom’s army and their allies.
This site also looks like a hill fort. But no direct archaeological evidence of a settlement at this site has been uncovered.
Four others cities are also mentioned in the Plain around the Dead Sea, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboyim and Bela (which became Zoar). The fifth city, Zoar, could relate to the small settlement 4 miles North of Mount Sodom, today called Neve Zohar.
This might add to the proof that Sodom was at the Southern end of the Dead Sea.
