The Holy Trinity is made up of three persons; God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
This can be difficult to understand as even though there are three distinct persons, this doesn’t equate to three gods. God is three persons in One God.
Some people point out that the word Trinity does not appear in the Bible, however it is very clear from the New Testament, that there are three persons.
Matthew 28 v 19
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
The Old Testament is not as explicit, but the persons of the Trinity are mentioned. The first instance is in fact at the beginning of Genesis.
In the beginning (verse 1), the Trinity made heaven and earth. God the Holy Spirit hovered over the face of the water in verse 2. And then in verse 3 onwards, God the Father speaks the Word, who is God the Son, which brings forth Creation.
We know God the Son is the Word, as this is explained in John 1.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
The final comment to make here is that when God makes humanity in His image in Genesis 1 v 26. The text does not say in Our Images, which would suggest more than one god, but in Our Image. This implies God is One.
Three persons in One God.
I have no idea what this means but it seems good 👍
